Xanthos Futterwacken JW
For those who don’t know, the Futterwacken is a dance performed by the Mad Hatter so when I had a dance themed litter of puppies in May 2018 out of Samba it seemed like a fun choice to call my puppy Xanthos Futterwacken, at home we call him Lewis after Lewis Carroll who wrote Alice in Wonderland.
Lewis carries an interesting pedigree with blood lines from Australia, Scandinavia and Europe. He is a strong but very gentle dog, with an outstanding nose. He knows which cupboard has the dummy inside! and is always up for gundog work and play.
In the showring he has won his Junior Warrant qualifying him for Crufts for life and is happy to do whatever we ask of him, but working in the picking up team is where he really comes into his own. A strong swimmer, with a excellent game drive he faces any cover but retrieves all birds with the softest of mouths. His bitch line goes back through so many of my dogs who excelled both in the show ring as well as the shooting field and with his outstanding health clearances and delightful temperament I think Lewis will have plenty to offer the gene pool. He is a calm, sensible stud and his first litters are looking very promising.
Lewis’s litter brother Xanthos Rumba has done so very well in the show ring for his owners in Switzerland, and his litter sister Xanthos Flashdance who lives in Holland, qualified for Crufts first time out at her first show in the UK. Xanthos Tango was an outstanding puppy, I was reluctant to let her go but prefer to run on one puppy at a time so she went to live with the McDonald-Legg family, however all was not lost because when she was then mated to Champion Xanthos Soothsayer I had a dog puppy back who I own in partnership with Giovanni Monteverde, his name is Olvinglay Locksmith a nod to 2020 the year of lockdown.. we call him Loki at home. I am so very proud of all of them. In the late summer of 2021 we had a visit from Jussi and Heli Kapanen-Lappalainen, they fell in love with Lewis and he flew back with him to Finland where I have no doubt his genes will make a positive contribution and his wonderful temperament will bring much fun to the Goldfellow team.
